Please try again later. jark87 4.0 out of 5 stars Like previous reviewer, setup was not as difficult as I expected. However, operating the unit is not as easy as it should be. I still can't figure out how to tone the bass down when in Audyssey mode, regardless of setting. Some movies have an overwhelming low frequency. Whatever happened to a simple scale or dial vs.Also, when Zone 2 is used with the FM tuner, the unit only displays Main Zone Off, making it impossible to figure out the station you are trying to select. I've only had the unit for about 3 weeks, so there could be things I haven't figured out yet that will make it easier. Sure would be nice not to have to dig through a poorly written manual, though. I don't think I should have to refer to a manual to tune in a radio station. Overall, if you can put up with minor negative nuances as described above, you'll be very happy with sound and video quality - an area that Denon continues to excel in. UPDATE: Since originally posting my review, I've come across a GREAT resource for getting the settings on this unit correct. In order to resolve my issues with the overwhelming bass, I had to manually set MultEQ, which disables some nice features, like Dynamic Volume (maintains steady volume for loud commercials). I wouldn't mind the set-up so much if I was the only one using the unit, but my wife and 3 kids constantly ask why I bought something so complicated.I bought in 2009 and never had any problems. 5.

This feature works together with the Dynamic EQ that dynamically adjusts the EQ settings to optimize the dynamic range. 1 sound perfect, potent and highly crystalline. The adjustments give a bit of work, but when you learn to operate the device, it is just fantastic. It performed flawlessly for years and years. The drawback was its limited HDMI support - which really wasn't very popular then and HD did not exist. During the process of upgrading to HD (shocked to see that Sony's PS3 was the BEST Blue Ray player! gads.) required replacing this Denon head unit. Sadly it still works flawlessly. After an extensive research and considering other units (Onkyo - owned by my brother) I really could not stray from Denon. Hours were spent finally comparing one Denon unit to the other. What made me settle on THIS unit was a combination of cost and the generous HDMI input (4). Set up wasn't difficult IF YOU READ THE DIRECTIONS. You will be grateful in the long run. Allow a couple hours or so for this process. Right now my Denon's like a good football referee. I don't even KNOW it's there. Just FLAWLESS, CLEAR operation with a single click. PHENOMENAL sound and video pass through. Bottom line: you just can NOT go wrong with a Denon unit. WHICH Denon unit is your only dilemma. Price point and features your require are what should guide you to the exact model number. Can I give it a 6-star rating?Spent 43 years at ABC-TV. Got 2 Emmys for my work. I worked everything from uontold numbeer of Wide World of Sports to 12 Academy Awards. It handles 7 plus components for me and once it's setup you can sit back and relax. I thot I knew what I was doing and ended with a pro installation. However you go, you will not be unhappy. We are so glad we spent the extra money to buy this one. Fantastic sound, takes care of the variable sound issue when commercials come on. Would definitely use this vendor again, product was shipped quickly and was exactly as described. This tuner is the best choice for a three zone system. Don't let the cost scare you. It's worth it's weight in gold.

Setup was not as complicated as I had expected.

Howard 4.0 out of 5 stars Honestly! This receiver also comes with DM-S305 setup microphone, at least I made sure mine did. I used this and it provided great speaker placement. My theater room is fairly even (like a rectangle). Because I like the surrounds a tad more aggressive, I manually made the adjustments. It's terrific and can open up the atmosphere. The same goes for using the DTS Neo modes. Though be aware that direct 5.1 mixes from DVD movies sound far more distinct. There are still many things I haven't investigated and certainly lack understanding such as the EQ settings, multi-room use (if you use 5.1 speakers and use the remaining two speakers for another room), and video up conversions. Also, I use it maybe a couple of hours ever few days, so I don't run it hard, and I've never had one problem with it. Not once.

The introduction of high definition and HDMI connectivity AFTER this receiver was produced has quickly made this and other non-HDMI receiver less relevant and, thus, the price has been reduced on eBay and the overall marketplace. And that is certainly fair. If you are still waiting for quality HDMI receivers to decrease in price or are waiting for HDMI advances, it's hard to go wrong with this intermediate, non-HDMI 7.1 receiver in the meantime (also called the 985). For an example, any of the three Lord of the Rings Extended DVDs in DTS-ES 6.1 Discreet sound breathtaking. Being non-HDMI I can't give the 2805 a 5 star rating, which I would have back in 2004 upon its release. HDMI is proving to be necessarily relevant with the advent of high definition in today's home theaters, as well as the release of Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio that is becoming available, which the Denon 2805 does not support. But for what it does, it's enjoyably excellent. Strengths: Power, versatility, detailed settings. Learning remote. Clean, hefty sound; 100-watts per 7 channels. Good 100 page manual, which includes many diagrams. Many inputs. 7.1 pre-outs. On-screen display for helpful set up and information. DM-S305 setup microphone for speakers. Multi-room, video conversions. Weaknesses: Non-HDMI. The one quirky, frustrating thing is that an older film (like from the 1980s-1990s) recorded in 2.0 surround will always throw the receiver into Dolby Pro-Logic IIx mode, and the manual confirms that is exactly what it will do (on page 42). What if you want to watch it strictly in 2.0 surround speaker placement. You have to turn off some speakers. So it's workable. It's a minor complaint. Some who are not into fine-tuning the details may find the receiver, remote and manual overly complex. The Dolby Digital and DTS surround for DVD's is terrific. It's handling of CD's is very, very good too. I found it easy to set up and the auto set up of the speakers is very easy to do.

My only complaint is that the remote is a little bit confusing when you first start using it, but once you get used to it's layout and which buttons handle what feature, then it's a breeze to operate. It's bit on the heavy side to hold in your hand, but otherwise it's very good. Highly recommended for it's advanced features and ease of operation.I would not recommend it for the above reasons.I strongly recommend it to anyone. Connector specification. (Posted by marcplatten 7 years ago) Denon AVR 2805 - AV Receiver Answers Service Manual Where can I get free dra-395 service manual (Posted by Cormpjc 8 years ago) Denon DRA 395 - AV Receiver Answers Lenovo recommends that you use a blanket, towel, or other soft cl. It also provides scads of other extras, including an automatic setup routine, seven channels of amplification, and a forest of gold jacks on the back panel. Want more? OK, it sounds great and offers the look and feel of a high-end component. If you're searching for a receiver worthy of playing hub to all but the most tricked-out systems, the 2805 deserves a place on your short list. There's no denying that the Denon AVR-2805 is a full-size component. It measures 17.25 inches wide, 6.75 inches high, and 16.75 inches deep. The owner's manual claims that it weighs 29.75 pounds, but it felt heavier to us. We think Denon's refreshed cosmetics provide a more contemporary flair than last year's models did, and you can now get the 2805 in either black or silver. The remote is beautifully laid out, with a variety of differently colored and shaped buttons. We'd like it even more if it were backlit, but otherwise it's pretty good.

The 2805's Auto Setup routine fills three pages in the owner's manual, but they are mostly devoted to the numerous onscreen prompts. We do wish setup were a one- or two-button exercise, but it's certainly a lot easier than manually navigating through the standard setup. Auto Setup checks speaker phase on each channel, adjusts volume levels for the speakers and the subwoofer, and measures the distances from the speakers to the listener. Compared to no setup at all, it can make a dramatic improvement in your home-theater sound quality; most folks are so intimidated, they never make it to first base of the standard setup ordeal. We tried Auto EQ with our NHT and Dynaudio Contour speakers, and it added treble detail and firmed up the speakers' bass. Try it; you may like it. As we noted in the introduction to this review, the Denon AVR-2805 offers an adjustable delay (up to 200ms) to establish lip sync between your speakers and video sources or displays that lag behind the audio signals. Some of today's digital TVs, DVD players, video processors, and even satellite or cable TV systems can introduce this kind of delay, which we can't stand; it's incredibly distracting to see actors' lips move before you hear them speak. You can assign separate delays for different sources, such as DVD players or satellite set-top boxes. We were in the best seats in the legendary Las Vegas venue, the year was 1966, and Frank was grooving with the Count Basie Orchestra. The big band sound was so wonderfully vivid, we could hear the music's effect on the booze-soaked crowd. The DVD-A was like a virtual time machine. In some cases, resolution has its downsides.Come to think of it, all of our favorite DVDs sounded weightier, richer, and generally better than we're used to hearing.Although the two receivers sounded similar, the 3805 had more gravitas, and when we pushed the volume way up, the 3805's power advantages became apparent.

That said, in everyday use, we were never less than thrilled by the 2805's capabilities. Let's round up some of its best. Let's round up Amazon's best gems. Select a category If your receiver has these buttons, you can enter the setup menu and change your settings following the selections on the menu. If your receiver does not have these buttons or network capabilities, then setup won’t be possible without the remote control. For a more detailed procedure, follow the steps bellow: Note 1: Most routers offer a way to view a list of connected devices and their IP addresses (See your router’s manual for more information). An easier way to check the IP address is to enter the receiver’s setup menu and select “Network” followed by “Information”. Note 2: Without the remote control you'd only be able to do this with units equipped with the buttons needed to access the setup mode (SETUP, ENTER and Cursor Buttons). Ensure that any previously existing text in the address bar is either deleted or selected. For example, type “ ” (without the quotes). If this is the case, then change the settings of the security-related software. Note: Models without network interface are not supported.
